‘Lizzie Chest’ auction benefits Sunshine House

Lovers of fine furniture have until Friday night to bid on a one-of-a-kind piece inspired by a worker at Sunshine House Inc. in Sturgeon Bay.

Janet Davidsen of Details in Design Inc. of Chicago was selected as the regional winner of Grange Furniture’s Colorful Exceptions Design Contest. The competition provided 24 designers with an opportunity to create their own unique design on a piece of Grange furniture.

Davidsen’ said her “Lizzie Chest” is inspired by the ceiling in the Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, and by her sister Elizabeth’s love of butterflies. The two-drawer chest displays bright turqoise and gold finishes as the base colors, with tobacco-colored detailing. A large damask motif decorates the center of the chest, capturing a snapshot of the airport’s ceiling.

Grange pledged 75 percent of the auction proceeds to the designers’ chosen charities. Davidsen chose Sunshine House, which provides services and programs that benefit individuals with special needs and where Elizabeth goes to work.
